Parents fund playground for Upminster Junior School

Break time just got a whole lot better for pupils of an Upminster school after the ribbon was cut on a new £50,000 play area.

The Parents Association at Upminster Junior School, St Mary’s Lane, raised the money by hosting fayres, film nights and a fireworks display.

Creative Play Ltd battled rain, mud and gales to finish the playground, which includes a trim trail, stage and benches.

And Havering mayor, Cllr Brian Eagling, was on hand to officially open it.

Charlie Wright, chair of the Parents’ Association said: “It was a fitting testament to years of fundraising and seeing those smiles on the children’s faces made every stressful second suddenly seem worthwhile.

“We could not have handed the school a cheque for £50,000 had we not had a fabulous team constantly arranging and putting on events, so thank you to all past and present PA members and supporters.‘

Headteacher Tim Woodford said he hoped the new play area would help to develop personal, social and emotional health as well as general fitness and increased levels of activity.
